- He was born in Macon, Georgia.
- Brown was 13 when his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
- After school, he attended Syracuse University, New York, where he pursued a course in speech communications for two years, freshman and sophomore years.
- Then, he transferred his course to The University of Georgia.
- Later, he took business subjects thinking he would eventually join his family business. His parents owned a computer company in the 1980s. They sold computers to medical practitioners.
- One day, while studying for his economics exam at a library, he realized that he hated business subjects. He was always a science enthusiast and thought medicine was an interesting subject.
- He volunteered at a hospital to better understand his area of interest. He worked as a patient transporter. It was fulfilling for Brown to communicate with the patients, develop a relationship with them, and watch them get better. That's when he decided to pursue a career in healthcare.
- He signed up for a science class on the side while pursuing his business course. Surprisingly, he passed the science class and secured an A in it. He immediately decided to become a doctor. At that time, Brown was 26, a senior at college who was about to graduate.
- He had an overall GPA of 2.6. Following his pre-med classes, his 3.8 science GPA brought him to a new average of 3.0.
- He appeared in the MCAT exam twice.
- While waiting for his results, he got an orderly job at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He would mop floors and clean beds in the operating rooms.
- He faced a lot of rejection from medical schools. Finally, in 1997, he was admitted into Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine in North Chicago.
- There, he was president of the Student Surgical Society.

- During his general surgery training, he took a year off from clinical duties and spent a year focusing on research regarding scarring and wound healing in one of the top research labs at Dr. Thomas Mustoe’s lab at Northwestern University.
- During that year, he also wrote and published papers in one of the top Plastic Surgery Journals, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
