Controversies	Slammed for Partying Without Mask: In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a video went viral on social media in which Mike was seen celebrating his 31st birthday in Miami. The video showed Mike and his friends partying without wearing masks or following the rules of social distancing. Mike was slammed by many for this nonprofessional behavior. Eventually, he posted a YouTube video apologizing for his actions saying that he had "messed up" and he needed “to do better.” American ethicist Arthur Caplan said that Mike had completely failed to become an appropriate role model to millennials and he should be called out. • Mike's father, Oskar, hails from Ukraine. 
   

• His mother was an ethnic Russian. She died of leukemia during Mike's first year at NYIT. 
• He spent his early childhood in Saransk in Mordovia, Russia.
• In December 1995, Mike and his family immigrated as refugees to Brooklyn, New York due to rising anti-Jewish crimes in Russia.
• Initially, they lived in a rent-controlled apartment, which used to have mice and cockroaches.
• He faced difficulty in attending school because of the language barrier. Mike was fluent in Russian but knew only a few words in English when he arrived in New York. 
• He was nicknamed "Doctor Mike" in high school by his friends who would come to his father, a doctor, with sports-related injuries and ask for help. 
   

• Inspired by his father's relationship with his patients, Mike decided to become a doctor.
• In 2012, Varshavski started showing his life as a medical student on Instagram, striking down the notion that "you can't have a life in medical school".
